Skippervej 10, 9681 Ranum, Denmark – Great location - show map
Livø is located in Limfjorden approx. 10 km southwest of Løgstør. To get there, sail by ferry for 20 minutes from Rønbjerg Harbor. The island has an amazing beautiful and varied nature with a rich wildlife on the good 3 square kilometers. At the tip of the protected and inaccessible Livo Tap, seals live, while deer and deer are grazing in the woods and fields.Livø has elements of most Danish habitats with both heaths, fields, overcrowds, pines, forests and steep slopes along the coasts on the west side of the island. Part of the forest is an original light-lavender ege-hassel-mixing forest, where deadwood is allowed to lie.About 100 hectares corresponding to one third of Livo's area are plowed and grown ecologically. The fields are used inter alia. For experiments with cultivation of old cereals and gluten-free crops. In addition, there is a crew of approx. 150 pieces of black angus cattle. It is a cattle breed that is suitable for nature care, and they also graze among other things the forest floor during the summer.During the period 1911 to 1961, Livø was used as a kind of partially open institution for especially development-impaired criminals. The beautiful old institution buildings are at the heart of Livø Feriecentre's operations. Here is room for approx. 270 overnight, and in addition we have a tent and marina. There is also a café with a kiosk, which usually has a large selection of drinks and a very limited selection of other items, and a meeting house.Green Livø is a project under the Nature Agency. It's an attempt to become independent of fossil fuels and, overall, make the island sustainable.More information about Green Livø is available on the Nature Agency website.
